About Me

designing a home for collectors

Do you collect dolls, maybe die-cast cars or action figures? Do you have a room of your own to display all of your prize possession safely? If you are a collector of any sort, you need to have at least one area of your home in which you can display the things that you enjoy so much. I have created this blog to show other collectors how to design a space in the home to display, store and showcase the items that fill their hearts with joy, take them back to their childhood and just make people proud of what they have.

4 Considerations When Choosing Curtains For Your Home

No home is complete without the proper window treatments. One popular window treatment option is curtains. Curtains are versatile and come in many fabrics and colors, which make them a great addition to any type of home. When you are choosing curtains, you should keep a few things in mind.

Choose the Right Curtain Rod

Curtains must have something to hang off of, and your curtain rod shouldn't be picked out haphazardly. Curtain rods provide a finishing touch. The first thing that you must decide is if the curtain rod is going to be hung outside of the window frame or within it. Those who choose to hang curtain rods outside of the window frame would benefit from choosing a more decorative curtain rod with finishing details, as it will be highly visible. Choose the right material. Curtain rods are made from wood, metal and plastic, depending on the type of room you have and your climate. For example, if you have a more modern room, you might want to go with stainless steel curtain rods to complete the look of the room.

The Right Fabric

Choosing the right fabric for your curtains can set the tone of your room. For example, if you have a formal living room that you want to place curtains in, opt for fabrics that drape that can create a feeling of elegance in the room. Great fabrics that provide optimal draping and can contribute to the overall feeling of a formal living room include, silk, synthetic silk weaves, velvet and brocade. For a more informal room, choose a fabric that can cover your windows properly, but isn't as heavy. Cotton curtains are great for more casual rooms.

The Right Color

The last thing you want is for your curtains to clash with the overall color scheme of the room that you are putting them in. It's important to consider the color palette of the room, and then choose curtains whose color is complementary to or included in the color palette of the room.

Function

When choosing your curtains, you need to decide their function. Some people opt for curtains that are purely decorative in nature, and these curtains will be made out of light or gauzy material. If your function is more practical and you are purchasing curtains to block out large amounts of natural light, opt for something like a blackout curtain.

Choosing the right curtains can make or break a room. Keep these considerations in mind when choosing your curtains.
