About Me

designing a home for collectors

Do you collect dolls, maybe die-cast cars or action figures? Do you have a room of your own to display all of your prize possession safely? If you are a collector of any sort, you need to have at least one area of your home in which you can display the things that you enjoy so much. I have created this blog to show other collectors how to design a space in the home to display, store and showcase the items that fill their hearts with joy, take them back to their childhood and just make people proud of what they have.

Furniture Finds For Your Home Office

Setting up or staging a home office? Pull a few items from your home or keep an eye out for pieces that work perfectly in at-home work spaces. Bring some of your own personality and preferences with pieces that have style, but that don't compromise function.

Some functional furniture finds for your home office include:

Computer carts. If your home office is small, consider finding the perfect computer cart. These streamlined carts are like portable desks, on casters so they can be moved with ease. Set up your computer or laptop and gear on this cart to save space.

A chaise. A vintage-style chaise makes an excellent spot to work online, read, or talk on the phone in your home office. Since some offices are too small for a couch or sofa, these provide a viable option that brings a comfy place to sit to users.

Storage ottomans. Storage ottomans are great for when someone visits the office and you need more seating. These also give you a place to tuck items, objects, and work supplies out of sight. These are widely-found and inexpensive, so consider buying a couple new ones for your home work space.

A mirror. A mirror has an alluring way of making an office seem larger. Invest in frameless mirrors for the optical illusion of a much bigger, more-open space. Horizontal mirrors work best for this; hang them at standing eye-level.

Cocktail tables. There are so many uses for a low-to-the-ground cocktail table in a home office. First, these are perfect for setting up laptops or spreading out materials when seated. Also, these provide a space-efficient spot to eat or serve beverages.

A desk. If you have the space, invest in a desk. Buy yourself one that is efficient for your needs, with built-in storage features. You can probably find beautiful, ornate desks made from wood at auctions and stores widely, but make sure that you have ample space and that you are prepared for the heft and weight of moving it.

Coat trees. Finally, carve out a little space in the corner of your home office for a coat tree. These are charming, and bring a certain aesthetic to a small or box-shaped room. Plus, where else are you going to hang your coat or sweater?

Consider visiting furniture stores and sites to find these pieces for your home office. Office furniture doesn't have to be boring or plain; enjoy a few items that bring a warm, productive feeling each time your enter your work space.
